How to Rotate PDF Pages for Free
A scanned page comes out sideways, or a single page in an otherwise fine document is upside down. Here's how to rotate exactly the pages that need it — one page, several, or the whole file — without installing anything.
Where to find it
Rotating lives inside the Merge tool — that might seem unexpected if you only want to fix one file, but it works perfectly well with a single PDF. You don't need a second file to combine it with; dropping in just the one you want to fix is enough.
Step-by-step guide
- Open the Merge tool and drop in your PDF — one file is enough.
- Every page appears as its own thumbnail once it loads.
- Click the ⟳ button under any page that needs rotating. Each click turns that page another 90°, so click it again to keep rotating until it's the right way up.
- Fix as many pages as you need — each one rotates independently.
- Click "Merge & Download" to get your file back with the pages you rotated fixed, and everything else untouched.
Rotating every page at once
If the whole document came out sideways — a common result of scanning a stack of pages in landscape orientation — click the ⟳ button on each page thumbnail. Since every page rotates independently, this takes a few extra clicks for a multi-page file, but each page ends up rotated by exactly the same amount.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a second file to use the Merge tool just for rotating?
No — dropping in a single PDF is enough. The tool doesn't require multiple files; "merging" one file with nothing else just outputs that same file with whatever changes you made.
Can I rotate just one page in a long document?
Yes — each page has its own rotate button, so you can fix a single page without affecting the rest of the document.
Does rotating affect the page's text or quality?
No — the page's actual content is untouched; only its orientation changes, the same way turning a printed page in your hands doesn't change what's printed on it.
Can I also flip a page, not just rotate it?
Yes — each page thumbnail also has a "Flip" button, right next to rotate, for a horizontal mirror flip.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No — everything happens locally in your browser. Your PDF is never sent to a server.
